A BRIEF GLIMPSE AT THE PAST
High Point Ballet celebrates the 30th season of The Nutcracker.  A family holiday tradition with all the magic High Point Ballet brings to the stage.  HPB’s Nutcracker opened in 1987 at the Edward C Smith Civic Center in Lexington.  From there HPB’s Nutcracker has performed at the High Point Theater, High Point University, returned to Lexington and is now it its second full season back at the High Point Theater. 

 

 

 

FULL FEATURE PERFORMANCES
With the magic of Drosselmeyer, played by Choreographer and Artistic Director, Gary Taylor Clara’s dream comes to life with all The Nutcracker’s favorite characters.  These performances feature Act One, Party Scene, Battle and Snow along with the captivating Second Act Land of the Sweets.  Join HPB as Clara asks the question, “Was it only a dream?”  Tickets are only available through the High Point Theatre

LAND OF THE SWEETS
These special Children’s performances are presented in a one-act format and feature a parade of characters beginning one hour prior to the show with opportunities to meet the characters, take photos and gather autographs.  Tickets are only available through the High Point Theatre

STUDENT PERFORMANCE SERIES
High Point Ballet is dedicated to working to make The Nutcracker accessible.  These special one-hour performances are presented at a special rate for educators and their students.    High Point Ballet serves as your contact for these performances.  Download the reservation form for details.  Still have questions?  Use this link to email HPB. D Ward

SPECIAL GUEST ARTIST
DAVID WARD, Cavalier
Former leading dancer with BalletMet where he spent the past seven years, David trained at the English National Ballet School and spent five years dancing with Northern Ballet in Leeds, England. Mr. Ward's career highlights include touring across mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Thailand, as well as dancing for Prince Edward. He also danced in the International Ballet Stars Gala and was a guest performer in Las Vegas. Mr. Ward has spent past summers as a guest performer at the National Choreographer's Initiative for their tenth anniversary performance and with Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance in North Carolina. Mr. Ward's favorite performances include the title roles of Hamlet, Peter Pan and Dracula. The most memorable performances include dancing the role of Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, the Cavalier in The Nutcracker and the Prince in Cinderella, The sleeping beauty and Swan Lake

Gary Taylor, is recognized for his mastery of original works, innovative choreography, partnering, instruction, and performance. His choreographic awards and recongitions include:

Regional Dance America (RDA) National Choreographic Award, for “Dreams”  (1999)

Outstanding North Carolina Teacher in Performing Arts (1999) by University of North Carolina School of the Arts

Regional Dance America (RDA) National Choreographic Commission Award for “Temptation” (2004)

Regional Dance of America (RDA) Choreographic Recognition Award for “Angels”  (2006)

Regional Dance America (RDA) National Festival  (2008) Original Ballet, “Last Breath,”  performed at the Benedum Theatre in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania at the National R.D.A. Festival

“Last Breath” featured in the February 2008 edition of Pointe Magazine

Adjudicator for RDA Northeast & Mid States Festival held in Pittsburg, Pa (2011)

Director of the RDA National Choreography Intensive (2010-Present)
